Camshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Camshaft Position Sensor, checking

Special tools and equipment

-

VAG1598/31 test box

-

VAG1526 hand multimeter or VAG1715 multimeter

-

VAG1594 adapter set

-

Wiring diagram

Check conditions

-

Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor 2 -G163- screwed on tight

-

The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V.

Test sequence

-

Pull 3 pin connector -1- off Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor 2 -G163- -2-.

-

Connect multimeter to measure voltage using aux. cables from VAG1594 to the outer contacts of the connector.

-

Switch ignition on.
Specification: min. 4.5 V

-

Switch ignition off.

-

Connect VAG1598/31 test box to control module wiring harness. The engine control module remains disconnected.
