Axle Flange Shaft Oil Seals Replacing

Axle Flange Shaft Oil Seals, Replacing (Transmission Installed) 

-

Observe general repair instructions.

Special Tools 

-

VW 771 Slide hammer

-

VW 771/37 Puller hooks

-

3106 Drift

Removing 
-

Before replacing left-side oil seal:
-

Remove axle shaft. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.

-

Before replacing right-side oil seal:
-

Turn steering to right onto full lock stop.

-

Remove right inner constant velocity joint protective cover from engine, if installed.

-

Disconnect axle shaft from flange shaft.

-

Tie up drive shaft as high as possible. Do not damage paint on drive shaft.

-

Place drip tray underneath.

-

Remove flange shaft cone-head bolt.

-

Remove flange shaft with spring.
