Most Frequent Causes for Inoperative Electric Window Regulator Motor
Model(s):
Golf, GTI, Jetta
Condition
The majority of electric window regulator motors received at the Warranty Test Center are found to be functional.
Service
Prior to replacing an electric window regulator motor:

Check that window switches and child lockout switch are OK.
^
Check connectors at "A" and "B" pillars for pin push-outs, bent pins, corrosion, broken wires, loose connections etc.

Check that ground connection at left "A" pillar is OK.
^
Check that electrical connections at window regulator motor are OK (no pin push-outs, bent pins, corrosion, broken wires, loose connections, etc.).
^
Check that window regulator is mechanically OK (window moves freely inside track without binding, cables are aligned, etc.).
^
Loosen and re-torque window regulator motor to ensure that body tolerances are not causing window to bind.
Note:
If necessary use the the detailed troubleshooting information (Troubleshooting Guide No. 23) along with the appropriate Electrical Wiring diagram.
Both are located in the Repair Manual, Electrical Wiring Diagram Troubleshooting & Component Locations Binder.
If all checks are OK then:

Replace electric window motor.
