Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Description and Operation

The three speed electric cooling fan is controlled by the cooling fan control module through a coolant temperature sensor mounted in the radiator and a
second thermosensor mounted in the coolant manifold and by the A/C control system and the after run control module, if equipped. Various fan speeds
are chosen dependent on coolant temperature and refrigerant pressure when the A/C system is On. The coolant fan can also be switched on after the
ignition is switched Off if coolant temperature rises above 198°F by the after run control module to prevent hot soak starting problems.

Fan speeds will be, 1st (low) speed when engine coolant temperature is 198°-207°F, 2nd (medium) speed when coolant temperature is
210°-221°F and 3rd (high) speed when coolant temperature is
234°F. The fan will run at 1st (low) speed whenever the A/C is turned
On and at 2nd (medium) speed whenever refrigerant pressure rises above 232 psi regardless of coolant temperature.
