Gas Strut, Rear Lid: Removal and Replacement
NOTE: The following procedure is for the Golf. The procedure is the same for the Jetta.

Ball stud, 15 Nm (11 ft lb)

Retaining clip

Gas strut

Bolt

Ball stud/mounting plate, 15 Nm (11 ft lb)

Support rear lid.
-
Lift retaining clip -2- with a screwdriver and pull gas strut off ball-head stud -1-.
NOTE: If the gas strut is to be re-used, the retaining clip -2- must not be removed completely or it will be damaged.
