Engine Control Module: Testing and Inspection
ECM Voltage Supply Open Circuit, Follow-up Procedure
With Manufacturer's Scan Tool
Engine Control Module (ECM) Voltage Supply Open Circuit, Correcting
All values learned by the Engine Control Module (ECM) and the basic setting values, as well as the readiness code will be erased if the voltage supply is
interrupted. Therefore, depending upon the vehicle mileage, it can lead to serious engine running problems.
Special tools and equipment
VAG1551 Scan Tool (ST) or VAG1552 mobile scan tool with VAG1551/3 adapter cable
Test sequence
Perform the following operations after voltage supply open circuit:
-
Switch ignition on for at least 10 seconds.
-
Switch ignition off.
-
Carry out adaptation of Engine Control Module (ECM) to throttle valve control module.
-
Check idle speed. Refer to "Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Idle Speed", See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Engine/Tune-up and Engine
Performance Checks/Idle Speed/Testing and Inspection
-
Generate readiness code.
NOTE: During idling check the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve -N80- and the air conditioner are switched off, and the
oxygen sensor control learning procedure is initiated.
-
Perform longer road test until poor driving characteristics are eliminated.
Observe the safety precautions when carrying out a road test.
During the road test the following operating conditions must be fulfilled:
-
The coolant temperature must exceed 80 °C
When temperature is reached, operating conditions:
-
Idling
-
Part throttle
-
Wide Open Throttle (WOT), and
-
Overrun must be obtained several times.
At Wide Open Throttle (WOT) the speed must exceed 3500 RPM.
Not Available For Generic Scan Tool
The manufacturer does not provide this procedure using a generic scan tool.
