After pressing the Q key the throttle valve positioner is switched so that it is not supplied with voltage at start of test.

In this condition the throttle valve is pulled into an emergency running position by a mechanical spring in the throttle valve control part. The values that
both angle senders provide in the emergency running position are stored by the engine control module.

Thereafter the throttle valve is opened a predetermined value. If this value is achieved, the throttle valve is again switched so that it is not supplied with
voltage. Now the mechanical spring must pull the throttle valve to the previously learned emergency running position within a predetermined period
(spring test).

Then the throttle valve is closed by the throttle valve positioner and the values, which are supplied by the angle senders in the throttle valve control part
are stored by the engine control module.

If the engine control module switches the throttle valve positioner so that it is without voltage during normal operation, this is indicated by the increased
and hunting idling speed. The engine reacts slowly to accelerator changes.

Indicated on display: (1 to 4 = display zones)

Adapting has been performed successfully.

End the engine basic setting by pressing the -> key.

Press keys 0 and 6 for the function "End output" and confirm entry with the Q key.

To store the values:

-

Switch off ignition for at least 50 seconds (control module run-on).

Switch off ignition.

NOTE: If the basic setting of the control module is interrupted, the cause could be one of the following:

The test conditions were not fulfilled.
Throttle valve control module or wiring is defective. See: Electronic Throttle Control Module/Testing and Inspection 

After an interruption a fault is stored in DTC memory. When next switching on ignition the basic setting is automatically performed again.

If all components are to be replaced, adapt all control modules and use new key set.

Appropriate control modules must be obtained from the parts department based on the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and engine code.

Appropriate ignition keys must be obtained from the parts department based on the key number.

Install new components.

Before adapting components, the VIN must be entered into the control module for the immobilizer. This is only possible with the VAS 5051 tester.

Adapt Engine Control Module (ECM).

Adapt all ignition keys.

If the voltage supply is interrupted, the engine control module looses all the "learned" and/or "basic" values. Therefore considerable driving
characteristic problems may occur depending on vehicle mileage.

Special tools and equipment

V.A.G 1551 scan tool or 1552 scan tool with cable VAG 1551/3

Work sequence

Perform the following operations after voltage supply open circuit:

Switch ignition on for at least 10 seconds.

-

Switch off ignition.
