If the specification is not attained:

-

Remove wiper arms and cowl panel.

-

Connect test box VAG 1598/31 to control module wiring harness. The engine control module remains disconnected.

Checking voltage supply terminal 30

-

Measure voltage supply with multimeter and aux. cables from VAG 1594 between test box sockets 1 + 62 and 2 + 62:
Specification: min. 11.5 V

If the specification is not attained:

-

Check wiring connections to relay plate according to wiring diagram.

Checking voltage supply terminal 15

-

Measure voltage supply with multimeter and auxiliary cables from VAG 1594 between test box sockets 1 + 3 and 2 + 3:

-

Switch on ignition
Specification: min. 11.5 V

-

Switch off ignition.

If the specification is not attained:

-

Check wiring connections to relay plate according to wiring diagram.

Procedure after voltage supply open circuit

If the voltage supply is interrupted, the engine control module looses all the "learned" and/or "basic" values. Therefore considerable driving
characteristic problems may occur depending on vehicle mileage.

Special tools and equipment

-

V.A.G 1551 scan tool or or 1552 scan tool with cable VAG 1551/3

Work sequence

Perform the following operations after voltage supply open circuit:
-

Switch ignition on for at least 10 seconds.

-

Switch off ignition.

-

Perform idling check

Note:

During idling check the EVAP canister purge regulator valve and the air conditioner are switched off and the Oxygen sensor control
learning procedure is initiated.

-

Perform a longer test drive until poor driving characteristics are eliminated.

During the road test the following operating conditions must be fulfilled:
-

Coolant temperature must exceed 80°C.

-

When this coolant temperature is reached, the operating conditions
