Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair

NOTE:

-

Always replace seals.

-

Do not reuse hydraulic oil that has been drained.

-

Directly below the component legend are the Fig. numbers. Please refer to these for information regarding removal and installation instructions.

1- Sealing ring

2- Pressure line

3- Banjo bolt 

- 

Tighten to: 30 Nm (22 ft. lb.) 

4- Suction hose

5- Hose clamp

6- Power steering pump

- 

Manufacturer: ZF, Saginaw 

- 

Modification: pumps from Toyoda have also been installed and use the same removing and installing procedure

- 

Only ZF pumps are supplied as replacement parts

- 

Delivery pressure for all pumps is the same

- 

Fill with oil before installing 

- 

Illustrations shows a Toyoda pump

7- Socket-head bolt 

- 

Tighten to: 25 Nm (18 ft. lb.) 

- 

Counter hold using water pump wrench VAG 1590 when loosening and tightening

8- V-belt

- 

Checking condition

9- Hex bolts

- 

M8 x 32: 25 Nm (18 ft. lb.)

- 

M8 x 28 for Toyoda pump -6-: 20 Nm (15 ft. lb.) 

10- Bolt

- 

Tighten to: 45 Nm (33 ft. lb.)
