Correcting Trunk Lock Deficiencies

This bulletin Supersedes Technical Bulletin, Group 551 93-02 issued July 30, 1993
Condition
^ Trunk will not open using push-button lock.
^ Trunk can be opened even if locked with key mechanically or via Central Locking System.
^ Trunk will not open using remote push-button in glove box.
Service
If the trunk does not open using the push-button lock in the trunk lid, do the following:
Check central locking activator operation
- Remove trim panel from inside rear lid
- Observe central locking activator while operating driver's door lock with key.
^ The activator must move the locking arm on the push-button lock assembly fully into lock and unlock positions.
If not,
- Refer to the Golf/Jetta Wiring Diagrams binder for troubleshooting the electrical operation of the central locking system.
- Refer to Technical Bulletin, Group 57, Number 94-03 for troubleshooting pneumatic operation of the central locking system.
If yes, Do the following:
Install auxiliary tension spring on trunk lock activator.
- Loosen the two Phillips head screws holding the activator to the trunk lid.
