Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder: Service and Repair

Lock Cylinder, Removing And Installing

CAUTION:

-

When disconnecting and reconnecting battery terminals, observe all applicable Notes and torque specifications, as well as instructions on
performing OBD program and electrical system function checks as specified in this Repair Manual

-

When removing steering column switches and drilling shear bolts, ensure that no metal shavings enter steering column switches.

-

Steering lock may be destroyed.

-

If steering lock is operated without lock cylinder, it locks and must be replaced.

-

Steering lock must not be operated without lock cylinder.

-

Special safety precautions apply to vehicles equipped with airbags. Heed all WARNINGS pertaining to airbag servicing.

Removing:

-

Disconnect battery

-

Remove steering wheel

-

Remove steering column trim

-

Remove Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module J527.

-

Remove Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring F138.

-

Remove Steering Angle Sensor G85.

NOTE:
-

For reasons of clarity, illustration does not show turn signal switch and windshield wiper switch. Switches must not be removed when
removing lock cylinder.

-

Induction coil for anti-theft immobilizer is integrated with lock cylinder and cannot be serviced separately.

-

Disconnect electrical connection - arrow - at induction coil.

-

Insert ignition key into lock cylinder and turn it to position "Drive"

Position of key in lock cylinder:

1. Position "Stop"
