Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting

CAUTION!
Risk of injury. Observe warning notes and safety precautions. Refer to --> [ Warnings and Safety Precautions ] .

CAUTION!
‹› Always ensure the vehicle electrical system is protected by disconnecting the battery before working on the electrical system.

‹› Do not loosen or remove the grounding wires from the body. Only disconnect the battery negative terminal (-).

‹› The battery positive terminal (B+) must only be disconnected if the battery is removed from the vehicle.

‹› Observe warning notes and safety precautions. Refer to --> [ Warnings and Safety Precautions ] .

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Disconnecting

CAUTION!
‹› Turn off the ignition and all electrical consumers.

‹› Remove ignition key.

Procedure

-

Open locking mechanism - arrow - and remove battery box cover.

First, disconnect negative (-) battery terminal clamp -  1 - from battery ground (GND) post.

-

Then, disconnect positive (B+) battery terminal clamp -  2 - from battery positive post.
