Engine Oil Pressure: Testing and Inspection

Oil Pressure and Switch, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Oil pressure gauge (VAG 1342)

‹› Voltage tester (VAG 1527B)

‹› Connector test set (VAG 1594C)

‹› Torque wrench 5-50 Nm (VAG 1331) 

‹› Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051B)

Test Conditions

‹› Engine oil level OK. Checking, refer to --> [ Oil Level, Checking ] See: Testing and Inspection.

‹› Engine oil temperature at least 80 °C (coolant fan must start up once).

Test Sequence

‹› Tightening specification, refer to --> [ Oil Filter, Cooler and Pressure Switch Assembly Overview ] See: Oil Filter/Service and Repair.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the oil pressure switch.

Remove the oil pressure switch - 2 - and install it into the (VAG 1342).

Install the (VAG 1342) in place of the oil pressure switch in the bracket.

Connect the brown wire - 1 - from the (VAG 1342) to a good ground.

Connect the (VAG 1527B) using adapter cables from the (VAG 1594C) to the battery positive and to the oil pressure switch.

‹› Light Emitting Diode (LED) must not light up.

If the LED lights up:

-

Replace the oil pressure switch.

If the LED does not light up:

-

Start the engine and slowly increase engine speed:

‹› LED must light up at 1.2 to 1.6 bar positive pressure, otherwise replace the oil pressure switch.
