Air Filter Element: Service and Repair

Air Filter Element

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Torque wrench 5-60 Nm (VAG 1783)

‹› Hose clip pliers (VAS 6362)

Removing

With Engine Code CBFA

-

Disconnect the secondary air guide to the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump motor from the upper air filter housing - 4 -.

‹› Press the securing ring to disengage the line.

Continuation for All Engine Codes

Remove the screws - arrows - from the upper air filter housing.

Lift the upper air filter housing up and remove the air filter element. 

Installing

‹› Tightening specifications, refer to --> [ Air Filter Assembly Overview ] See: Service and Repair/Air Filter Assembly Overview. 

Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following: 

‹› If the air filter element is very dirty or soaked, dirt particles or moisture may have contaminated the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and may be

causing false mass air flow values. This results in a reduction of power, since a lower injection quantity is calculated.

‹› Always use original air filter elements.

‹› The hose connections and the hoses must be free of oil and grease before being installed. Use a silicone free lubricant when installing.

‹› The air filter housing must be clean.

‹› Secure all hose connections using hose clamps appropriate for the model type.

‹› Observe disposal regulations!

Note the following when blowing out the air filter housing with pressurized air:

‹› To prevent malfunctions, cover critical air flow engine components such as the MAF sensor, air duct pipes etc. with a clean cloth.
