Steering Gear: Description and Operation
Differences Between Generation 2 and Generation 3 Steering Gears
As of Model Year (MY) 2009 the generation 3 steering gear is being installed. It replaces the generation 2 gear.
With the steering gear installed, the way to determine the difference is to count the number of bolts which secures t the steering gear to the subframe.

Raise the vehicle.
The generation 2 gear is secured to the subframe with 4 bolts and the generation 3 gear is secured with 3 bolts.
