Ride Height Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Level Control System Sensors, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Vehicle tester (VAS 5051A)

The Left Front Level Control System Sensor (G78)/Left Rear Level Control System Sensor (G76) transfer the vehicle inclination in the form of a
signal to the Headlamp Range Control Module (J431).

There is a test to see if the Left Rear Level Control System Sensor (G76) and Left Front Level Control System Sensor (G78) deliver usable signals to
the Headlamp Range Control Module (J431).

In the following cases, no DTC entry is stored in Headlamp Range Control Module (J431):

‹› If the Left Front Level Control System Sensor (G78)/Left Rear Level Control System Sensor (G76) is installed incorrectly

‹› If there is mechanical damage to the Left Front Level Control System Sensor (G78)/Left Rear Level Control System Sensor (G76)

‹› When vehicles have a modified axle geometry (e.g. lowered vehicle) 

‹› Headlamp basic setting cannot be performed if the values for the Left Front Level Control System Sensor (G78)/Left Rear Level Control System

Sensor (G76) are outside of the tolerance.

Connect the (VAS 5051A).

On the (VAS 5051A), select "Guided Fault Finding".

Using the "Go To" button, select "Functions/Component selection" and the following menu options in sequence:

‹› Electrical Equipment

‹› 01 - On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems

‹› Automatic vertical headlamp aim control

‹› Functions of automatic vertical headlamp aim control

‹› Level Control System Sensor, Checking
