Ball Joint: Testing and Inspection

Ball Joint, Checking

Axial Play, Checking

Pull the lower control arm downward firmly in - direction of arrow - and push back up again.

Radial Clearance, Checking

-

Push wheel in and out firmly at the bottom in - direction of arrow -.

‹› There should not be any noticeable or visible play in either of the two checks.

‹› Observe the lower ball joint while performing the checks.

‹› Make allowance for any wheel bearing play or play in the strut mounting at the top.

‹› Check the rubber boot for damage, replace the lower ball joint, if necessary.
