Removing   Note Protect the vehicle against paintwork damage using suitable dust sheets or covers and textile-reinforced adhesive tape. –  Remove side panel trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70 –  Remove head restraint cover → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.72

–  Open locking mechanism for convertible roof to release pressure from convertible roof.   Note t  The illustration shows the convertible roof lock installed in the correct working position. If the convertible roof catch is assembled incorrectly (other than the way shown in the diagram), the convertible roof catch will not work properly. t  If the convertible roof handle does not return to its proper rest position after opening and closing the convertible roof: –  Remove front locking mechanism for convertible roof → Chapter.

–  Replace bolt -arrow- with bolt WHT 003 871. Torque setting: 25 Nm — 90°.   Caution The convertible roof must remain closed for two hours after using the new bolt. –  Install front locking mechanism for convertible roof → Chapter

–  Pull insert beading -2- off water guide -1-, if part of original equipment.

–  Pull out convertible roof headliner -2- on roof fabric retaining bar -1- in -direction of arrow-.

–  Prise open retainers -2- from tensioning cable -1- using a screwdriver. The retainers remain clipped in at the same position.   Note To facilitate installation, observe the original position of the retaining clips for the tensioning cable.

–  Remove bolts -3- (10 Nm) and nuts -4- (10 Nm) from body -1-. –  Press off roof fabric retaining frame -2- from body -1-. The sealing band between the convertible roof fabric retaining frame and body can lead to retaining frame bonding slightly. –  Remove side panel trim on left and right of luggage compartment → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70

–  Disconnect connector -1- on left and right side of rear window. –  Guide connecting line for heated rear window into interior and unclip from side panel. –  Open convertible roof fully.

–  Remove bolts -2-. –  Close convertible roof manually but do not lock. –  Remove bolt -4-.   Note Never loosen the securing bolts/screws -1- and -3- of the base plate otherwise the default settings for the convertible roof will be lost. –  Lift the roof off the main mounting at approx. 45° and remove it forwards from the convertible box (second mechanic required).
