  Note
t  When reinstalling, ensure all cables and connectors of PODS are reconnected correctly if they were disconnected during removal process.
t  Note how all cables are connected and routed before starting work on PODS components.
–  Disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Remove front passenger seat (install airbag adapter -VAS 5094-) → Seat frame; Rep. gr.72.
   
–  Remove bolt on inner side of seat -arrow-.

–  Remove plastic rivet -1- on front part of seat.
–  Remove plastic cover -2-, unhook from lower part of seat -3-.

–  Remove bolt -arrow-.

–  Unhook plastic part from seat -arrow-.

–  Press seat cover as shown and pull cover off seat frame -arrow-.

–  Press seat cover as shown and pull cover off seat frame -arrow-.

–  Pull cover off seat. To pull off cover -arrow-, see instructions under → Seat padding, covers; Rep. gr.74.
  Note
t  In this case, the seat cover can be removed without removal of the backrest.
t  Move backrest down if necessary
–  Cut through white plastic band -1- on seat padding
  Note
t  This band must not, under any circumstances, be cut off the padding on an exchange part.
t  Take note of how the heater cable is routed as this will make reinstallation easier.
–  Remove heater element from seat padding. Carefully separate both parts for this.

–  Cut through clips -arrow-.

–  Disconnect sensor connector -1-.
–  Disconnect connector for seat belt tensioner sensor. To do this, press connector downwards and then inwards -arrow-.
–  Disconnect connector -2- and release from retainer.
–  Release cable from securing clips -3- as required.
  Note
t  Release locking device on upper side of connector -1- for control unit when connecting the replacement part.
t  Note routing and connectors before releasing cables from securing clips -3-.
–  Release cable from securing clips as required.

–  Release hose clips -arrows- from retainers.
  Note
t  Before releasing clips, ensure that replacement part also has clips. If not, reuse existing clips.
t  When hose clips are missing, ensure that clips are connected correctly to replacement hose and hose is routed as shown in illustration.

–  Remove Torx screws R 1and -1-.
–  Remove nuts -2-.
–  Remove bolt -4-.
–  Remove control unit -5- from retainer -3-.
–  Remove retainer -3-.
  Note
Metal retainers only require removal if they are damaged, or when the PODS control unit and the pressure sensor will not pass through the opening.

–  Slide control unit and the pressure sensor through opening -arrow-.
  Note
The illustration shows the metal retainer after it has been installed on the seat.
–  Remove sensor mat from seat base.
