t  Air conditioning system service station -VAS 6007 A-
  W00-10176
t  Leak detector -V.A.G 1796-
  W00-1134
t  Torque wrench (5...50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-
Removing
  Note
t  Comply with warnings and safety procedures before starting installation work. → Rep. Gr.00
t  The refrigerant must be extracted beforehand, with the air conditioning service station -VAS 6007 A-.
t  The previously used service stations can still be used → Volkswagen Workshop Equipment catalogue.
t  All components of the refrigerant circuit which have been opened must be sealed with suitable plugs to prevent moisture intrusion.
  WARNING
Always disconnect the battery earth strap before working on the electrical system.
  Note
When the battery is reconnected, check and activate the vehicle equipment (radio, clock, comfort electrics, etc.) according to workshop manual and/or owner's manual.
First carry out the following work:
–  Extract refrigerant.
  Note
Releasing refrigerant into the environment is a punishable offence.
  W00-0427
–  Remove bolts -A- (specified torque: 22 Nm).
Fitting
–  Renew O-rings -B- (10.8 mm; 1.8 mm) and -D- (14.3 mm; 2.4 mm).
  Note
t  Refrigerant line -C- leads to condenser
t  Refrigerant line -E- comes from expansion valve
t  Make sure roll pins -F- are correctly located when refrigerant lines are being fitted.
The remaining installation steps are carried out in the reverse order of removal.
  Note
Perform following work steps prior to first use if a new air conditioner compressor has been installed or fresh refrigerant oil filled into air conditioner compressor (e.g. after blowing through refrigerant circuit and emptying air conditioner compressor via oil drain plug):
t  Turn air conditioner compressor about 10 turns after installation by hand.
t  Start engine with air conditioner compressor switched off.
t  Wait until idling speed has stabilised.
t  Only then switch on air conditioner compressor and let it run for at least 10 minutes at idling speed.
