Pulling out wheel hub > < Removing and installing front wheel bearing with wheel bearing housing installed

Removing
–  Lift vehicle far enough to take weight off front wheels.
–  Loosen 12-point nut.
–  Raise vehicle to a suitable height.
–  Remove wheel.
–  Detach brake carrier with brake caliper or just brake caliper and attach to body with wire. → Brake system; Repair group 46; Repairing front brakes
   
–  Mark positions of bolts -arrows- of swivel joint -1- on suspension link -2-.
–  Mark installation position of swivel joint -1- in relation to suspension link -2-.

–  Press out drive shaft.
  Note
Ensure sufficient clearance when pressing out drive shaft.
–  Pull wheel bearing housing with swivel joint out of suspension link.
–  Remove drive shaft from wheel bearing housing and tie up.
The drive shaft must not hang down under its own weight.
Otherwise the inner joint will be bent too far and will be damaged.
–  Remove cross-head screw for brake disc and remove brake disc.
–  Remove cover plate.
–  Detach coupling rod from suspension link.
–  Detach wire for speed sensor from suspension strut.
  Note
Place engine/gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- underneath (danger of accident from parts dropping out when wheel hub and wheel bearing are pulled out).
