Removing 
Tie rods can only be removed and installed when steering gear has been removed.
Power steering gear, removing and installing.
-

Seal line connections on power steering gear if not done already.

Clean outside of power steering gear in area of boot.

Open clamp and push back boot.

Tension steering gear on transmission support T10108 and unscrew tie rods from steering rack. 

Note:  To clamp steering gear, use hole "5" and the matching hole lying opposite on transmission support.

Installing 
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal.

Tightening torques 

Installing boots 
-

Check boots for wear (slits, cracks) and check sealing surfaces of boots for dirt.

Install boots. Rotate tie rod beforehand so that stud of tie rod end stands in installation position.

Note:  Only use original clamps.

Tighten clamp using Hose Clamp Pliers VAG 1275.

-

Install power steering gear.

Power steering gear, removing and installing.

Tie Rod Ends, Modified

Tie rod ends, modified 

The manufacturing process for tie rod ends was optimized. This has modified the outer shape and length of thread shaft.

It was then necessary to modify the tie rod ends to match the tie rods.

Implemented as a running-change.
