Selector Lever, Checking
Recommended special tools and equipment

V.A.G 1526 multimeter or V.A.G 1715 multimeter

V.A.G 1594 connector test kit

Wiring diagram
Requirements
-
Respective fuses must be OK: Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component Location
-
Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 volts.
-
Selector lever must be in -P- position.
-
Ground (GND) connections to transmission must be OK.
-
All electrical consumers such as, lights and rear window defroster must be switched off.
-
Parking brake must be engaged or else daylight driving lights will be switched on.
Function test
-
Switch ignition on.
-
Depress brake pedal and maintain depressed.
-
Shift into all selector lever positions.
-
Selector lever position must correspond to display of Control module with indicator unit in instrument cluster control module -J285-.
-
Switch ignition off.
If selector lever position does not correspond to display of Control module with indicator unit in instrument cluster control module -J285-:
-
Remove guide for Selector Lever -E313-.
-
Disconnect 10-pin harness connector to Selector Lever -E313-.
Observe safety precautions.

Check harness connector for contact corrosion and ingress of water.
If harness connector is not OK:
-
Repair malfunction and repeat test sequence.

Erase DTC memory of Mechatronic unit, Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control
Systems/Testing and Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures/Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory

Generate readiness code.
If harness connector is OK:
-
Replace Selector Lever -E313-.

Erase DTC memory of Mechatronic unit, Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control
Systems/Testing and Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures/Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory

Generate readiness code.
