Measure fuel pressure.

Specified value: approx. 4.0 bar positive pressure

-

Switch ignition off.

If specified value is not obtained:

-

Replace fuel pressure regulator.

-

Bleed fuel system.

-

Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM). Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. See: Computers and Control
Systems/Testing and Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures/With Generic Scan Tool/Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data

Generate readiness code. See: Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

If specified value is obtained:

-

Check for proper seal and residual pressure. Observe pressure drop on pressure gauge for this. After 10 minutes at least 3.0 bar positive pressure
should still be present.

If residual pressure falls below 3 bar positive pressure:

-

Start engine and let run at idle.

-

Wait until pressure has built up, and then switch off ignition. Simultaneously close V.A.G 1318 pressure gauge shut-off valve (lever perpendicular
to direction of flow (arrow)).

-

Observe pressure drop (engine side) on pressure gauge.

If pressure drops again:

-

Check whether line connections, O-rings in fuel rail, and fuel injectors are properly sealed.

-

Check pressure gauge for proper seal.

NOTE:  Before removing pressure gauge, place cleaning rags again around line connection which is to be disconnected and remove fuse 28 from
fuse holder again.

If pressure does not drop:

-

Check line connections to fuel tank for proper seal.

-

Test check-valve of Fuel Pump (FP). Fuel Pump (FP), checking. See: Fuel Pump/Testing and Inspection

If no malfunction is detected in fuel lines and Fuel Pump (FP) check-valve is OK:

-

Replace fuel pressure regulator.

-

Bleed fuel system.

-
