Remove bolts -1- with vehicle standing on its wheels (raise vehicle until the bolts are accessible).

Remove shock absorber hex bolt -1- on rear axle.
For ease of illustration the work sequence is shown without the wheel.

Remove shock absorber.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Fastener/location Tightening torques 

Shock absorber to rear axle ..................................................................................................................  40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) plus additional 90° turn 

Use new nuts!

Load rear of vehicle with one person when tightening
Shock absorber to body ....................................................................................................................  30 Nm (22.1 ft. lbs.) plus additional 90° turn 

Use new bolts!
