Airbag Safety Precautions

Airbag Safety Precautions

CAUTION!
To reduce the risk of serious injury when handling airbag modules:

Airbag module work, repairs, removal, testing, and installation or work on the airbag system may only be performed by trained
personnel.

Prior to starting work on the airbag system, always disconnect the ground cable. Work can begin immediately after the battery is
disconnected. A waiting period is not necessary.

Always discharge the static electricity of the body before touching the airbag unit or performing work steps. Place hands on a suitable
grounded metal object, e.g. on a water pipe, heating pipe, or metal frame.

‹›

Always install the airbag unit immediately after removal from the transport container.

‹›

Never leave the airbag unit unattended. If work is interrupted, place the airbag unit back in the transport container.

‹›

Make sure on one is in the vehicle when working on airbag system, especially if airbag system is connected to power source or battery
is reconnected.

‹›

Never lay aside airbag unit onto workbench or any other surface with side down that faces passenger compartment. When airbag unit
is activated, it may uncontrollably fly around in the workshop and thus cause severe injuries. Side of airbag facing passenger
compartment must always point upward.

Never install an airbag unit that has been dropped or has external damage.

‹›

Airbag units that were not installed or not installed completely must be stored in airbag container. Noticeably mark outer side of
container so that other persons are aware of airbag still being able to deploy.

Always transport and store undeployed airbag units according to the valid statutory provisions.

‹›

The original protective seat covers can only be removed when the seats are approved for the use of thorax airbags (indicated by the
embroidered " airbag" symbol).

‹›

It is not permitted to use commercially available extra seat covers. Only extra seat covers approved for use with airbags may be used.

‹›

When installing the backrest, ensure that the cover seam is straight in the vicinity of the thorax airbag.

‹›

All seat cover clips must be replaced.

‹›

Use only original cover clips.

‹›

If the cover is damaged (rips, burn holes, etc.) in the area of the thorax airbag, always replace the cover for safety reasons.
