Checking the LATCH system (lower anchors and tethers for children)
‹› Service personnel must check LATCH anchors for damage and deformation.
‹› Welded LATCH anchors cannot be repaired or replaced.
‹› The fuel tank of the vehicle is located directly behind the area where the lower LATCH anchors are located. To avoid damaging the fuel tank thus
preventing fire caused by fuel leak, welding and boring and protruding screws or other mounts are not allowed in this area.
‹› If the upper and lower LATCH hooks are used, a maximum child weight of 18 kg is allowed. Upper tether must not be used alone but only
together with seat belt system or lower anchors.

LATCH definition:
The LATCH system "lower anchors and tethers for children" is comprised of a combination of rear and lower anchors for securing the child seat.
In vehicles through build date 09.2000 (09/00) (see label on driver side B-pillar - arrow -), the guide mounts must be checked during delivery
inspection.
