Shift Interlock Solenoid: Service and Repair
Removing:
CAUTION!

Before working on the electrical system, obtain radio security code and disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
^
When reconnecting battery, always check operation of vehicle equipment such as radio, clock, and power windows according to Owner's Manual.
^
Push down sleeve on selector lever.
^
While depressing knob in handle, remove selector lever handle by pulling upward.
^
Carefully pry off cover for selector lever housing at left and right rear and remove,
^
Remove center console and arm rest if installed.
^
Disconnect locking cable from shift mechanism locking lever.
^
Cut cable tie -1- at selector lever housing.
CAUTION!
Do not damage wiring harness.
^
Using screwdriver, carefully pry out retainers for wiring harness and electrical connector -3- from selector lever housing.
^
Disconnect electrical connectors for selector lever lock solenoid -4- and selector lever position display -5-.
^
Carefully pry at four corners -6- and remove. Be careful not to damage contact spring for selector lever position display.
^
Remove locking segment -2 bolts).
^
Move selector lever to "1".
^
Remove retaining bracket -7- (2 nuts).
^
Remove solenoid bolts -8- (Qty. 2).
^
Remove front selector mechanism nuts (Qty. 2).
^
Lift vehicle.
^
Disconnect exhaust system at double clamp -A-. Remove front bracket for exhaust pipe if necessary.
^
Remove cross support -B- below exhaust system.
^
Remove heat shield -C-.
^
Remove heat shield -D-.
^
Remove rear bolts for selector housing.
^
Support selector mechanism .
CAUTION!
Do not bend or kink selector lever cable.
^
With selector lever in "1" remove solenoid with locking pin and spring from selector lever housing (move selector lever slightly back and forth if
