Motronic fuel injection and ignition system ä 07.95
Self-diagnosis
Function

Note:

The self-diagnosis monitors only a part of the injection and ignition system. For fault finding the binder "Fault finding engine" must also be used in every case.

The Motronic control unit (J220) for the fuel injection and ignition system is equipped with a fault memory.

If faults occur in the sensors and components being monitored, they will be stored in the fault memory together with an indication of the type of fault.

The stored faults are output after initiating the fault display .

This fault memory must be erased once the faults have been eliminated => Page 01-34 .

A fault relating to the function of the Lambda control system can only be interrogated after a test drive of at least 10 minutes duration.

Faults which can be attributed to a temporary open circuit in the wiring or a loose contact, will also be stored. These faults will be displayed as sporadic faults "SP" and are automatically cancelled if they are not repeated after 40 engine starts.

Note:

The fault lamp in the dash panel should light up when the ignition is switched on and go out when the engine has started.

If defects occur in the sensors and/or components and the monitoring conditions are satisfied, the fault lamp will also light up with the engine running.
