  Caution
l  In Germany the “online request with GeKo-VW” replaces the request of the 7 character PIN as of 01.07.2004.
l  In other countries the “online request” replaces the request of the 7 character PIN as of 01.10.2004.
  Note
t  Immobilizer self-diagnosis is now only possible with vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 5051A- or the vehicle diagnosis and service information system -VAS 5052-.
t  Not all self-diagnosis functions are possible due to the change-over to “online request with GeKo-VW”.
t  The functions which are no longer possible are replaced by the programs in “guided functions” → Chapter.
General description:
The Passat features a second-generation immobilizer
Communications between the immobilizer control unit and the engine control unit take place on the W-wire.
The immobilizer electronics consist of:
t  an immobilizer control unit
t  a matched engine control unit
t  a reader coil on the ignition lock
t  matched ignition keys with electronic components (transponder and response reader memory)
