01 09 09 Apr. 15, 2009 2005554 Supersedes T. B. Group 01, number 09-05 dated Apr. 8, 2009 due to additional "Note" under Technical Background
information.
Update Programming, MIL ON, DTCs P0300-P0304, P0102, P1297, P0420 and P0441 Stored in ECM Fault Memory
NOTE: DO NOT diagnose or replace Evaporative or Emission system components such as the Catalyst, Throttle body, MAF, Ignition components,
Fuel Cap, Activated Charcoal Canister, or the Evaporative system purge valve -N80-, before performing the update function as explained in this
bulletin.
ECM requires update to enhance the following system strategies:
Technical Background
May be caused by the software of the Engine Control Module.
Improved software in the Engine Control Module resolves concerns related to:
-
Adjustment to cold start secondary air strategy.
-
EVAP strategy change to prevent system testing below 5 °Celsius (40 °Fahrenheit).
-
Adjustment to diagnostic strategy tolerances for changes to air intake volume over time.
-
Adjustment to OBD diagnostic parameter strategy.
NOTE: Monitoring strategy for catalytic converter is too sensitivity causing unnecessary catalytic converter replacements. Engine misfire diagnostic
strategy is adjusted for better catalyst protection. Updated programming of the ECM software is based on recent engineering experiences and makes
this knowledge available for the monitoring strategy.
Production Solution
Software concern was identified after end of production.
