Control Module: Service and Repair
Transmission Control Module (TCM), Replacing
Transmission Control Module (TCM), Replacing
Work procedure
First, check control module identification of the previous Transmission Control Module (TCM) as follows:

Connect diagnostic tester. See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic
Trouble Codes/Scan Tool Connecting/Diagnostic Tester, Connecting

Switch ignition on.
-
Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 9: Vehicle information".
-
Select the vehicle information "Test-ID 04: Calibration Identification".
Control module identification will be displayed, e.g.:
3B0927156AP1213

End diagnosis and switch ignition off.
NOTE: The Transmission Control Module (TCM) is located under floor carpet in footwell in front of front passenger's seat.

Remove lower right A-pillar trim and door sill molding:
-
Loosen carpet and fold upward.
-
Unclip Transmission Control Module (TCM) out of box -arrows-
-
Then disengage connector from control module and disconnect.
Observe safety precautions.

Position connector on connector housing -1-, swivel in -2- and engage -3
-
Rest of installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

Check whether the new control module identification matches the old control module identification.
If Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- was replaced:

Code the Transmission Control Module (TCM)
