Clutch Master Cylinder: Testing and Inspection
012/01W, 5 SPD. M/T
Clutch master and slave cylinders, function check, 012/01W, 5 SPD. M/T
Check the following items before replacing the clutch master or slave cylinder:
Noise when operating the clutch:
^
First, check over-center spring or clutch pedal switch for noises.
^
If noises are audible, remove over-center spring and repeat test.
Clutch pedal does not release after engaging clutch (clutch pedal no longer being operated) or does not completely return to rest position:
^
Observe pinched footwell trim, mats or locking clutch pedal switches
^
Explain to customer that foot should not be rested on clutch pedal.
^
Self-bleeding function of the clutch system can be impaired when bleeder hole in master cylinder cannot carry out function.
^
Self-bleeding clutch hydraulics can not be operated permanently unless bleeder hole is accessible.
^
Bleeder hole is integrated in master cylinder. Not visible from the outside.
Check complete hydraulic system for leaks.
^
Check brake fluid level in brake fluid reservoir.
^
Visual check of clutch master and slave cylinders as well as hose/line assembly with connection points for leaks.
^
Replace impaired components.
^
Bleed clutch system.
High pedal pressure:
^
Clutch disc worn
^
Mechanical malfunction of pressure plate/clutch disc
For comparison only: Pedal pressures
^
Clutch lining new approximately 115 N
^
Clutch lining close to wear limit approximately 160 N
Clutch does not disconnect or disengage completely:
^
Air in hydraulic system, check hydraulic system for leaks, bleed clutch system
^
Needle bearing in flywheel (centering bearing for input shaft) faulty, replace needle bearing.
^
Foreign substances in clutch
^
Mechanical malfunction of pressure plate/clutch disc
^
Incorrect components installed or components forgotten (e.g. intermediate plate).
