Passat L4-1.8L Turbo (AWM) (2004)
Radial run-out can be measured with rear final drive installed.
If a new propshaft is installed and the color marking on the flanged shaft of the rear final drive is no longer visible, location of largest radial run-out
(corresponding to greatest distance from turning axis) must be determined and marked with a color marking.
Align this colored dot with colored dot on propshaft.
^
Disconnect propshaft from rear final drive and tie up.
^
Remove right shielding plate from rear final drive.
^
Install installation arbor VW792 in center hole - arrow - for right shielding plate/drive axle.
^
Install dial gauge holder VW387, with dial gauge, to installation arbor VW792.
^
Set dial indicator to zero with 1 mm pre-load and place on ground diameter - arrow - in flange.
^
Rotate both rear wheels simultaneously in one direction and thereby turn flange through one complete rotation.
^
Make a paint marking at the point of greatest radial run-out on the outside of the flange (greatest distance from axis of rotation).
^
Then remove the previous marking from the flange.
^
When installing propshaft, markings on flange for propshaft - arrow A - and for rear final drive - arrow B - must then line up.
^
Install propshaft.
