Condition

Gear shift binding or lock up may be caused by the following:

Back up light switch binding due to side load at switch.

Back up light switch cover rubs on shift rod.

Gearshift or reverse lever binding in channel due to lack of lubricant.

Production Changes

7/89  Back up light switch modified

11/89  Back up light switch lubricated during assembly

Service Solution

Check back up light switch for function. Replace if necessary.

Check shift rod cover, Part No. 02A 919 835 for physical damage. Replace if necessary.

Apply MO S2 grease to transmission shifter and transfer linkage. Arrow
