Fuel Injector: Service and Repair
Injector Replacement

To replace the Fuel Injectors:

CIS-E Fuel Injector Insert

1.

Remove the fuel injectors by pulling them straight out, forcing them out of the O-rings that hold them. Leave the fuel lines attached to the
injectors. Pull straight and pull only on the injectors themselves, do not pull on the fuel lines.

NOTE: Some force is required to remove the injectors, and an inexpensive special tool is available which makes the job easier. It fits under the injector

fitting and uses a screwdriver for leverage, prying the tool and the injector straight out. One such tool is VOLKSWAGEN special tool # US
1123/4.

Disconnect the injectors from their fuel lines.

WARNING: Fuel will be expelled. Do not smoke or work near heaters or other fire hazards. Keep a fire extinguisher handy.

CAUTION: Absolute cleanliness is essential when working with fuel circuit components of CIS-E Motronic. Even a minute particle of dirt can cause

major trouble if it reaches the fuel distributor or fuel injectors. Before disconnecting any of the fuel line connections, throughly clean the
unions. Always use clean tools.

Replace the thick rubber O-rings on the fuel injectors.

4.

Connect the fuel injectors to the fuel lines and torque the fuel line fitting to:

15 ft.lb. (20 Nm)

5.

Lubricate the fuel injector O-rings and press the injectors into the insert until the O-ring is fully seated in its groove.

6.

START engine and check for any fuel leaks at the fuel injectors, repair leaks immediately.
