Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair

To replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator:

CIS-E Fuel Pressure Regulator

1.

Clean the fuel line fittings on the regulator before loosening them to prevent dirt from entering the fuel lines when they are disconnected.

CAUTION: Absolute cleanliness is essential when working with fuel circuit components of CIS-E Motronic. Even a minute particle of dirt can cause

major trouble if it reaches the fuel distributor or fuel injectors. Before disconnecting any of the fuel line connections, throughly clean the
unions. Always use clean tools.

Remove vacuum hose from regulator.

3.

Loosen and remove the fuel lines from regulator.

WARNING: Fuel will be expelled. Use a clean rag to soak up fuel. Do not disconnect any wires that could cause electrical sparks. Do not smoke

or work near heaters or other fire hazards. Keep a fire extinguisher handy.

4.

Loosen clamp bolt on the pressure regulator mounting bracket. Note the position of regulator in the bracket, then slide regulator out of bracket.

5.

Place regulator in mounting bracket. Position regulator (as noted above) and tighten clamp bolt.

6.

Connect the return line to fuel tank (fuel line that attaches to end of regulator opposite vacuum hose nipple) and torque fitting to:

15 ft.lbs. (20 Nm)

7.

Connect the fuel distributor return line (smaller fuel line that attaches to side of regulator) using new sealing washers on either side of fitting and
torque fitting bolt to:

7 ft.lbs. (10 Nm)

8.

Connect the system pressure fuel line from the fuel distributor (larger fuel line that attaches to side of regulator) using new sealing washers on
either side of fitting and torque fitting bolt to:

15 ft.lbs. (20 Nm)

9.

Connect vacuum hose to regulator.

10.

START engine and check for fuel leaks at the regulator, repair any leaks immediately.
