Power Steering Fluid: Testing and Inspection
Power steering fluid level, checking
^
Do not run engine and turn front wheels to straight ahead position.
Fluid in cold condition:
^
Remove cap.
^
Wipe dipstick off with a clean cloth.
^
Screw cap on hand4ight and unscrew again.
Note:
^
The cap must be fully screwed in order to obtain an accurate fluid level reading.
^
Check fluid level: Level must be in area of MIN mark (up to 2 mm above or below mark).
Fluid at operating temperature (from approximately 50°C):
^
Check fluid level: Level must be between MIN. and MAX. marks.
Note:
^
Fluid must be drawn off if the level is above the specified range.

If oil level is below aforementioned area, then the hydraulic system must be checked for leaks. It is not sufficient to merely top off the fluid.
