Special tools and equipment
-
VAG 1551 Scan Tool (or VAG 1552 mobile scan tool) with VAG 1551/3 cable
Procedure
Perform the following steps after an interruption in the voltage supply.
-
Switch on ignition for at least 10 seconds.
-
Switch ignition off.
-
Adapt Engine Control Module (ECM) to throttle valve control module. See: Service and Repair/ECM, Adapting to Throttle Valve Control Module
-
Perform idle test. See: Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Idle Speed/Testing and Inspection
NOTES: During the idle test the solenoid valve for the activated charcoal cannister and the A/C system is turned off and the adaptation process of the
oxygen sensor control is performed.
-
Perform a longer road test, until the problems with running characteristics are eliminated.
The following operating conditions must be obtained during road test:
-
Coolant temperature must rise to above 80°C.
-
Once the temperature is reached, the following conditions
Idle
Partial throttle
Wide Open Throttle (WOT)
Deceleration mode
must be reached several times each.
-
Engine speed must be increased to above 3500 RPM during Wide Open Throttle (WOT).
Terminal Resistance For CAN-Bus, Checking
Terminal resistance for CAN-Bus, checking
Vehicles with engine code ATQ (121-pin Engine Control Module -ECM-)
Function
The Engine Control Module (ECM) communicates with all databus-capable control modules via a CAN-Bus.
These CAN-Bus-capable control modules are connected via two CAN-Bus wires which are twisted together (CAN_High and CAN_Low), and exchange
information (messages). Missing information on the CAN-Bus is recognized as a malfunction and stored.
Trouble-free operation of the CAN-Bus requires that it have a terminal resistance. This central terminal resistor is located in the Engine Control Module
(ECM).
