Recommended special tools and equipment

V.A.G 1526 multimeter or V.A.G 1715 multimeter

V.A.G 1594 connector test kit
-
Wiring diagram
Test requirements
-
Respective fuses must be OK
-
Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 volts.
-
Selector lever must be in -P- position.
-
Ground (GND) connections to transmission must be OK.
-
All electrical consumers such as, for example, lights and rear window defroster must be switched off.
-
Parking brake must be engaged or else daylight driving lights will be switched on.
-
Ignition switched off.
Test sequence

Disconnect 16-pin harness connector -2-.
Observe safety precautions.
-
Check harness connector for contact corrosion and ingress of water.
If harness connector is not OK:

Repair the malfunction.

Erase DTC memory of Transmission Control Module (TCM). Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. See: Computers and Control

If harness connector is OK:

Check resistance of Solenoid Valve 1 -N88- through Solenoid Valve 3 -N90- at 16-pin connector to transmission.
