Only for vehicles with automatic transmission

If the Engine Control Module (ECM), the throttle valve control module, or the electronic gas activation has been replaced, the kick-down shift point
must be relearned.

Test condition

-

Ignition switched on, engine not running

-

There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory, Check DTC memory. 

-

Selector lever of automatic transmission must be in "P" or "N".

Test sequence

-

Connect V.A.G 1551 scan tool (VAG 1552). Switch ignition on and select Engine Control Module (ECM) using address word 01. Refer to Scan

Observe reading in display fields 3 and 4:

Display: Activate kick-down

Press accelerator pedal down past kick- down pressure point, as far as it goes.

-

Hold accelerator pedal down in this position for at least 2 seconds.

Observe reading in display fields 3 and 4:

Specification: kick-down ADP running and then
Specification: kick-down ADP OK

If display fields 3 and 4 indicate:

Display: kick-down ERROR

Test Throttle Position (TP) sensor -G79- and sensor 2 for accelerator pedal position -G185-.

NOTE:  This test determines whether the Engine Control Module (ECM) recognizes the engine operating conditions of idle, overrun, partial throttle,
enrichment, and full throttle.
