Clutch Slave Cylinder: Testing and Inspection
01A, 5 SPD. M/T (AWD)
Clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder, checking function, 01A, 5 SPD. M/T (AWD)
Before replacing clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder, check the following points:
Noise when operating clutch:

First check Top Dead Center (TDC) spring or clutch pedal switch for noise.

If noises can be heard, remove TDC spring and repeat test.
Clutch pedal remains on floor when clutch engages (clutch pedal no longer operated) or does not return completely to rest position:

Check for pinched footwell trim and floor mats and blocked clutch pedal switch
^
Inform the customer that the foot must not remain rested on the clutch pedal.
^
The self-bleeding function of clutch system can be impaired because bleeder drilling in master cylinder cannot perform its function.
^
Only when bleeder drilling is clear can the clutch hydraulics bleed itself permanently.
^
Bleeder drilling is integrated in the master cylinder. It is not visible from the outside.
Check complete hydraulic system for leaks
^
Check brake fluid level in brake fluid reservoir.
^
Perform visual inspection of clutch master and clutch slave cylinders as well as hose/line assembly for leaks at their connecting points.
^
Replace components affected.
^
Bleed clutch system.
High pedal pressure:
^
Worn clutch disc
^
Mechanical malfunction of pressure plate/clutch disc
Only for comparison: Pedal pressures
^
Clutch lining new approximately 115 N
^
Clutch lining at wear limit of approximately 160 N
Clutch does not separate, or does not separate completely:
^
Check for air in hydraulic system, hydraulic system for leaks, bleed clutch system
^
Needle bearing in flywheel (centering bearing for input shaft) malfunctioning, replace needle bearing.
^
Foreign objects in clutch
^
Mechanical malfunction of pressure plate/clutch disc
^
Incorrect components installed or components omitted (e.g. intermediate plate).
