Using a screwdriver, carefully pry off retaining bracket (arrow).

Disengage connector from Engine Control Module (ECM) and then disconnect it.

Remove old control module and insert new one.
-
Check old coding and code new control module.
-
Adapt new control module to throttle valve control module.

In vehicle with cruise control: Check whether this function is activated. If "G" does not appear in control module identification, activate cruise
control.
Vehicles with automatic transmission:
-
Adapt kick-down shift point
Continuation for all vehicles

Check DTC memory of new Engine Control Module (ECM) and erase if necessary.

Perform idle test
-
Re-generate readiness code.

Engine Control Module (ECM), adaptation procedure when replacing
NOTE:

The Engine Control Module (ECM) is adapted to the electronic controls of the immobilizer in the instrument cluster. For replacement of
component, a new adaptation must be performed.

If there are no authorized ignition keys available, new ignition keys must be prepared and adapted
-
Secret number must be available, if not, See "Determining secret number",
-
Adaptation can be interrupted using the "C" button of the VAG 1551 scan tool.
Requirements
Authorized key available.
NOTE: If all components are being replaced, the new key set must be used at this point.

Insert old (authorized) key into ignition lock.

Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST), switch on ignition, select operating mode 1 "Rapid data transfer" and enter address word 01 for "engine
electronics".
Display will indicate the control module identification and the coding, e.g.:
