Ribbed Belt: Testing and Inspection

 

Ribbed Belts, Checking 

Proceed as follows:

-

Lift vehicle and remove lower sound deadening cover (where applicable).

-

Fit wrench to vibration dampener/pulley -2- and turn so that entire length of ribbed belt running and flank surfaces are visible.

-

Check ribbed belt(s) -1- for:
-

Pitting and lateral or lengthwise cracks in ribbed belt running (contact) surfaces

-

Lengthwise cuts, loose strands

-

Pieces missing, separation, breaks in running surfaces

-

Belt reinforcement (flank surface) fraying

-

Flank and running surface wear, glazing, ribbed belt material deposits on pulley running (contact) surfaces

-

Oil or grease deposits

NOTE:  If ribbed belt is damaged, replace immediately to prevent failure or improper function of driven components.
