Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

Fuel filter, replacing (Diesel engine)

Note:  Ensure no Diesel fuel contacts coolant hoses. If necessary clean hose immediately. Observe disposal regulations! 

Removing

Remove pressure line from charge air cooler, loosen clamp -A- and remove bolt -B-.

Pull fuel hoses off connections -1-, -2-.

CAUTION:  To loosen, do not use pliers on filter base.

To counter hold filter use a 17 mm open end wrench on filter base bleed screw -3-.
Loosen clamp -4- and remove filter from bracket.
Unscrew filter from upper part. 

Installing

Moisten new seal lightly with diesel fuel.
Fill new filter with clean diesel fuel. This allows engine to start quicker.
Tighten filter hand-tight to upper part.
Insert fuel filter into bracket and secure with clamping bolt -4-. 

Note:  Flow direction is marked by arrows (do not interchange connections).

Push fuel hoses over hose connections -1- and -2- and secure hoses with hose clips.
Install pressure line and secure with clips -A- and screw -B-.
Start engine and check fuel system for leaks.
