Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair

Drive Flange Oil Seals, Removing And Installing 

Transmission installed  
Observe general repair instructions.  See: Service and Repair 

Special tools, testers and material

Multi-purpose grease

Removing 
-

Turn steering to left onto full lock stop.

-

Remove cover plate over the right-hand drive axle (arrows 1 and 2).

-

Remove cover above left-hand drive axle.

-

Place oil drip tray under transmission.

-

Disconnect axle from drive flange.

-

Carefully tie-up drive axle as high as possible (do not damage paint on shaft).

-

Place a chisel or spacer -A- behind drive flange.

-

Pull drive flange shaft out of differential gears by turning bolt -B-.

Note:  If the dove flange shaft does not come out square, insert a second bolt on opposite side of the flange to assist in removal.
