Ribbed Belt: Service and Repair
Checking/Adjusting/Replace

Belt Drive Without Tensioner:

NOTE:

-

Before removing the poly-ribbed belt, mark its running direction so that it can be reinstalled the same way

-

When installing, be sure belt is correctly seated in pulleys.

Removing:

-

Loosen Generator (GEN) bolts -1- and -2- at least one turn.

-

Press down Generator (GEN) with lever 3297 and remove poly - ribbed belt from Generator (GEN) pulley.

-

Remove V-belt for power steering pump.

-

Remove poly-ribbed belt.

Installing:

-

Install poly-ribbed belt on crankshaft vibration dampener/ pulley and on coolant pump pulley.

-

Install V-belt for power steering pump.

-

With lever 3297, push Generator (GEN) down to stop at least 3 times to ensure ease of movement.

NOTE:

-

If the engine has not yet been installed in the vehicle, stop here and continue the installation procedure after the engine is installed.

With lever 3297, push Generator (GEN) down and place poly-ribbed belt on pulley.
While Generator (GEN) is still loose, start engine and run at idle for at least 10 seconds.

NOTE:  Follow tightening sequence when tightening Generator (GEN) mounting bolts. Do not lean on Generator (GEN) and do not touch poly-
ribbed belt.

Tightening Sequence:

-

Tighten mounting bolt -2- to 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

-

Tighten mounting bolt -1- to 25 Nm (18 ft lb).

Drive Belt with Tensioner and Air Conditioning:

NOTE:

-

Before removing the poly-ribbed belt, mark its running direction so that it can be reinstalled the same way

When installing, be sure belt is correctly seated in pulleys.

Removing:

Lift belt tensioner with spanner 3299 to relieve belt tension, and remove belt from Generator (GEN) pulley.

-

Remove V-belt for power steering pump.
