Steering Gear: Service and Repair
Removing and Installing

Power steering gear, removing and installing 

Special tools required 

VAG 1907    3094

Removing 
-

Remove battery.

-

Remove driver's side stowage compartment.

-

Bring steering wheel to center position.

-

Remove ignition key with steering wheel in center position.

-

Move steering wheel slightly and engage steering lock.

Note:

If the steering wheel is turned uncontrollably when the steering gear is removed, the airbag spiral spring can be overwound and damaged.

Secure steering column from separating.

Remove nut -1- on steering universal joint.

-

Relieve tension on eccentric by turning tensioning bolt (Torx T50) clockwise. Remove bolt.

-

Swing universal joint away downward.

-

Clamp off suction and return lines with hose clamps 3094 or equivalent.

-

Remove front wheels.
