STEERING WHEEL WITH AIRBAG
CAUTION: On vehicles equipped with an anti-theft radio, obtain the correct radio activation code before disconnecting the battery.
Removal
1. Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
2. Center steering wheel (straight-ahead position).
3. Remove airbag unit, refer to Airbags and Seatbelts.
4. Remove trim below steering column switch.
5. Disconnect wiring harness connector -arrow- (Remove foam rubber sleeve from connector if fitted).
6. Remove hex nut and pull steering wheel off steering column.
NOTE:
-
After removing steering wheel, slightly turn connecting ring so the wire -arrow- faces downward. (Hold steering wheel in installation position.)
-
The Airbag Spiral Spring (F138) then locates and is prevented from turning.
-
If this is not done, or if the connecting coil is allowed to turn, it could cause the connecting coil to be overstressed and thereby damaged when
the steering column is at full lock.
Installation
1. Place steering wheel in position on splines, screw on nut and tighten to: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
2. Connect connector for airbag unit below the steering wheel.
3. Install trim below steering column. When doing this ensure that the Airbag Spiral Spring connector sits in the recess in the trim.
4. Connect connector in steering wheel to airbag unit.
5. Install airbag unit, refer to Airbags and Seatbelts.
NOTE: Always use new socket head bolts for airbag unit.
6. After installing the airbag steering wheel first switch ignition ON, then connect battery Ground (GND) strap.
WARNING: Ensure that no one is in the vehicle when reconnecting the battery Ground (GND) strap.
