Camshaft adjustor with timing chain for camshaft drive, installing. Refer to => [ Camshaft Adjuster with Timing Chain, Installing ] See: Variable

Clean the sealing surfaces on the timing chain cover and on the cylinder head.

-

If replacing the seals in the timing chain cover. refer to => [ Timing Chain Cover Seal, Installing ] See: Seals and Gaskets/Front Crankshaft
Seal/Service and Repair.

-

Apply sealant (D 176 501 A1) to the sealing surface of the timing chain cover and install it immediately. 

‹› The sealant (D 176 501 A1) hardens quickly.

-

Install the bolts - arrows - and tighten them slightly.

‹› The bolts - A - are not on vehicles with a mechanical vacuum pump.

-

Tighten the timing chain cover bolts to 8 Nm.

-

Install the camshaft timing chain tensioner and tighten it to 50 Nm.

Install the vacuum pump, if present. Refer to => [ Mechanical Vacuum Pump ] See: Brakes and Traction Control/Power Brake Assist/Vacuum
Pump/Service and Repair/Mechanical Vacuum Pump.

Install the cylinder head cover. Refer to => [ Cylinder Head Cover ] See: Cylinder Head Assembly/Valve Cover/Service and Repair.

Install the intake manifold. Refer to => [ Intake Manifold ] See: Intake Manifold/Service and Repair/One Piece Intake Manifold.

Reset the lock carrier service position.  See: Body and Frame/Lock Carrier
